Starting in 2012, Bob worked at the Association for Energy Affordability, Inc. as a senior trainer, home performance professional, and as the organization’s health and safety director. When he came to AEA, many energy efficiency and weatherization leaders in New York City and State already knew Bob from his tenure as the Weatherization Director at Northfield Community LDC on Staten Island, his subsequent work at Conservation Services Group and Steven Winter Associates, or his contributions to numerous conferences of energy professionals.
Bob contributed specialized knowledge of health and safety issues, home performance, quality control inspections, and more. His previous career with the NYPD had provided him with extensive training in health and safety and rescue operations that gave him unique insights into combustion safety hazards and protocols and related issues faced by Weatherization staff, and his inspections of hundreds of buildings in New York’s home performance gave him deep knowledge of energy usage and conditions in small homes, and the safety situations that can arise in the course of owning or upgrading the home.
Bob was an affable man, with a dry sense of humor — but when it came to safety issues, he was all business. He took his work and our mission seriously.
Bob’s last year at AEA was challenging for him due to his declining health, and his retirement in early 2020 was followed within a few short weeks by the arrival of COVID-19. We are saddened that we won’t have the opportunity to reunite at holiday gatherings or on other occasions. Those of us who knew Bob well will miss him very much, indeed.
On behalf of AEA staff and member agencies throughout the downstate Weatherization network, we send our sympathy to Bob’s loved ones.
