NYS Clean Heat – Statewide Heat Pump Program
Overview
NYSERDA and New York utilities are providing support and incentives for the installation of cold climate heat pumps and related energy efficiency measures. AEA has been a design and installation partner working in heat pump pilot programs for both NYSERDA and Con Edison. and will continue in the new programs, which will include additional investments for heat pump initiatives for low- and moderate-income customers.
Program Benefits
To produce energy savings right away in residential homes, and to ensure that new heat pump systems being designed for installation in residential properties are right-sized to operate efficiently, NYSERDA developed a Comfort Home Program, now in its pilot phase in designated counties including in Westchester and the Hudson Valley. The program provides support for installation of insulation and air sealing measures using approved contractors, with three tiers of incentives based on the comprehensiveness of the work scope. Homeowners who participate in the program also earn an incentive for installation of a cold climate heat pump if one is installed within 12 months of completion of the Comfort Home project. Households get immediate savings from these envelope measures, which also enable the heat pump contractor to install smaller, less costly equipment in the home – saving the homeowner additional money on the purchase and operation of the new system.
