DOE Weatherization (Direct Services)
Overview
The Weatherization Assistance Program provides energy audits and cost-effective energy-saving retrofits in the homes of low income households with the goal to reduce the costs of energy, maintain housing affordability, and increase the health, safety and comfort of occupants. The program targets households with elderly or disabled persons or children.
The program is administered by New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR), and funded annually by the U.S. Department of Energy. WAP also receives funds from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LI-HEAP) funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. By making their homes more energy efficient, these dollars help to lower the household’s energy bills for many years to come, not just with a one-time infusion of cash.
The Association for Energy Affordability, Inc. provides weatherization services to low income families in the South Bronx and sections of Queens under contract with NYSHCR.
