Rating and Certifications

For new construction and retrofit projects that are looking to become certified, AEA offers a number of green building and rating certification services. As a project consultant, the AEA staff member will work as a dedicated part of the design and construction team, ensuring that certification needs and energy efficiency standards are met. AEA currently offers the following rating and certification services:

Multifamily HERS Ratings and Verification (HERS I and II)

As qualified HERS raters (HERS I and HERS II), the AEA staff is experienced in guiding clients through the HERS process for both energy modeling (HERS II) and verification of installed energy savings measures (HERS I) in multifamily buildings. While these processes can be done independently of each other, the HERS raters of AEA can also act as a single point of contact for the client, providing all of the following services in one streamlined package:

  • A site visit and diagnostic testing of the existing building
  • An initial energy model (Test-in model) with predicted savings, including outside engineering calculations
when allowed by the program implementers
  • A detailed report for the client outlining any recommendations and associated savings
  • HERS I verification of all modeled energy savings recommendations
  • Adjusted energy model (Test-out model) of actual installed building conditions
  • Generation of HERS II score for the building and uploading of score to the CEC approved registry

Green Point Rating:

As certified Existing Multifamily GreenPoint Raters, the AEA staff can assist clients in achieving the GreenPoint Rated certification for their buildings.  Coordinating with building owners and the design team, AEA will formulate a list of proposed GreenPoint rated measures that are cost effective and appropriate for the client’s unique building, perform initial site visit(s) and diagnostic testing, and create an energy model that shows the existing and proposed energy use of the building.  By having extensive experience with multifamily buildings, AEA, Inc can cut down on the outside consultants often needed during the GreenPoint rated process, saving a client time and money.  Throughout the GreenPoint rated process, AEA will be there to provide on-site verification of installed measures and to help guide building owners, the design team, and contractors.

LEED Certification and Consulting:

With several LEED Accredited Professionals on staff, the AEA staff can assist clients in achieving LEED certification for their existing or new construction buildings.  Coordinating with building owners and the design team, AEA will formulate a list of proposed LEED measures that are cost effective and appropriate for the client’s unique building. This gap analysis provides the client with clear guidance on how to take an existing building plan or design to a specific LEED certification goal.  Throughout the LEED process, AEA will be there to provide on-site verification of installed measures and to help guide building owners, the design team, and contractors.  With LEED Accredited professionals on both US coasts, AEA provides clients with the wide-reaching experience that green building projects demand.
