Hands-On Training for the Energy Efficiency Workforce
AEA offers hands-on courses at different skill levels to grow the capacity of workers making buildings more energy efficient. Courses are offered at our Energy Management Training Center in New York and at our Chicago Hands-On Training Laboratory.
Short courses for experienced installers and tradespersons
These courses provide help to insure the health and safety of workers and provide focused instruction are a particular skill set needed to perform specialized tasks.
Participants earn continuing education credits for those who need them to maintain BPI certifications. A one-day or half-day course makes it easy for contractors to free up the necessary hours for employees to attend.
Examples of short courses include:
- Infiltration and Duct Leakage (IDL) Testing (one day)
- Combustion Safety Testing (half day)
- Air Sealing and Dense Pack Insulation (one day)

AEA provides training preparing workers for Building Performance Institute (BPI), Home Energy Professional (HEP), and Passive House Institute (PHI) certifications.
Contractors seek these certifications to qualify to work in the Weatherization Assistance Program or other government
and energy efficiency programs, or to help their workers or supervisors to meet the demanding Passive House Standard for new construction or retrofit projects.
