Chicago Passive House Window Installation Demonstration

On Tuesday afternoon, December 12, AEA’s Steve Marchese will provide a free demonstration of the techniques and materials used to install Passive House windows at AEA’s Chicago Hands-On Training Lab. The event will take place from 2:30 – 6:30 pm, with demonstrations at 3:00, 4:00 and 5:00.

This is the first in a series of courses and demonstrations that AEA will conduct for Chicago area contractors and builders seeking to strengthen their capacity to build projects that conform to the standards of Passive House, Net Zero, or other high performance building standards. Design professionals and quality control inspectors who are responsible for overseeing construction projects will also benefit from these educational events.

Selecting a suitable triple pane passive house window is an important first step, but window openings are one of the most significant locations where air leakage and thermal bridging can occur in a residential or multifamily building. Proper installation and air sealing of windows can sharply limit the potential for heat transfer between the building interior and the outdoors – which is critical to meeting most high performance building standards.

Steve Marchese is an experienced carpenter and trainer of contractors and installers in various trades working on energy efficiency retrofit and new construction projects. He also performs testing and verification services for projects pursuing passive house certification.
